The Canadian Firearms Safety Course is usually offered over two days for the back-to-back Non-Restricted and Restricted weapons or each one day course can be taken separately; conveniently covering Kitchener/Cambridge/Waterloo and surrounding areas. The maximum number of students allowed per class is 12.
COVID Protocol:
Anyone attending this course must:
Notify the instructor and refrain from attending class if the have COVID like symptoms.
• Respect others private space
• Wear a mask if directed by the instructor during certain parts of the course, and as required by local bylaws or the course venue
• Bring an appropriate optional mask which covers the nose and mouth.
• Follow the prescribed hand sanitizing protocol, using the hand sanitizer provided by the instructor, including, but not limited to, when entering and exiting the classroom, before and after picking up a training firearm, dummy ammunition, or other course material, and as directed by the instructor (if you prefer, you may bring your own hand sanitizer, provided it is one recommended by the federal government for use against COVID-19)
• Adhere to all related directions provided by the instructor throughout the course and examination

COURSES
The content of these courses are controlled and approved by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Canadian Firearms Program and was developed to meet the mandatory requirements of Section 7 of the Firearms Act. The lecture and written testing can be challenging; please review the course material online prior to attending class if you find the comprehension of english reading material challenging. You can also bring an interpreter if arranged with the instructor prior to class.

CANADIAN FIREARMS SAFETY COURSE (CFSC)
Non-Restricted Weapons
In order to apply for a Possession and Acquisition Licence, this course is mandatory for first-time license applicants and in court-ordered cases.
Topics covered include:

the evolution of firearms, major parts, types and actions;
-
basic firearms safety practices;
-
ammunition;
-
operating firearm actions;
-
safe handling and carry procedures;
-
firing techniques and procedures;
-
care of non-restricted firearms;
-
responsibilities of the firearms owner/user; and,
-
safe storage, display, transportation and handling of non-restricted firearms.
Applicants must be a minimum of 12 years old. No prior firearms experience necessary.
Non-restricted firearms are classified as ordinary rifles and shotguns, usually used for sport and hunting.
Restricted firearms include handguns that are not prohibited, semi-automatic, centre-fire rifles and shotguns with a barrel shorter than 470 mm, rifles and shotguns that can be fired when their overall length has been reduced by folding, telescoping or other means to less than 660 mm, and firearms restricted by Criminal Code Regulations.
CANADIAN RESTRICTED FIREARMS SAFETY COURSE (CRFSC)
Restricted Weapons
Individuals wishing to acquire restricted weapons must complete both the CFSC and CRFSC courses, and pass all requisite tests.

operating handgun actions;
-
firing techniques and procedures for handguns;

care of restricted firearms;
-
responsibilities of the firearms owner/user; and

safe storage, display, transportation and handling of restricted firearms.
Applicants must be a minimum of 18yrs. A non-restricted CFSC course must be completed prior to enrollment in this course.
